Flatcar Current
re-visited painting series
Content for these paintings involves examining the degeneration and regeneration of surfaces. This process leads the painter to explore the idea of the evanescence of life; the impermanence of all things.
These paintings are a continuation of a series begun in 2008. A walk down the top of an abandoned railway cars line of flatcars served as the stimulus to explore surfaces in paint. My attention was focused with each step. Each stride unveils a countless strata of decomposing metal, paint, and wood. Rust marks and the beginning of the surface decay forms the basis of these investigations in paint. The wind, sun, and weather sculpt a new view that preoccupies my mind.
Currently twenty nine paintings in this series are shown.
