Verne Busby - Prairie Landscapes

The prairie covers the southern half of the province I live in. My studio is on the edge of a provincial wetland park. The closeness of the big skies and vast open spaces is the constant driving force behind all of these paintings. The more conventional landscapes are created "plein air" on location.

It is always a challenge in retaining what is imperative and leaving out what is not. The landscape really evolves when the unexpected predominates. The genuine prairie emerges and is stimulated by the unpredictable combination of clearly delineated edges of land masses and irregular vestigial forms.

Currently there are 26 paintings in this series.
